Boxing/Kickboxing- Derby City offers quality instruction with registered USA Boxing Coaches who have cornered fighters for Boxing and MMA competition. Derby City is a registered USA Boxing gym. |
STRIKING |
"Striking"- Most training facilities only offer classes in "striking" or "stand up". This is usually code word for unqualified instructors teaching some made up form of punching and kicking. Always ask to see a school's USA Boxing Certification Certificate and if they don't have one ask, "Why?!"

M.M.A- At Derby City, we build a custom training plan around your schedule to cover all aspects of MMA. Then in our MMA classes you will be coached by a Pro Fighter that is 10-0. During the class you will do drills, conditioning and sparring. With our win/lose record you have a 98.3% chance of winning if you fight for us. | MMA |
"Cage Training"- Other gums usually offer an "MMA" class where they try to cover all four aspects of fighting in one training session by an unqualified instructor. If your instructor has a losing record, ask, "Why?!"

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu- At Derby City we are affiliated with world champion in BJJ, Renato Tavares of American Top Team. Master Renato has three of his Black belts instructing here along with two Brown belts. Derby City has won multiple Jiu-Jitsu championships and has had world class competitors train here like Abu Dhabi medalist, David Avellan. | GRAPPLING |
"Grappling"- Other gyms teach grappling, a form of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from techniques seen on the internet usually taught by an unqualified instructor. Never settle for second class instruction. If your instructor is not a Brown/Black belt ask, "Why?!" (Note: Japanese Jiu-jitsu or any other form of Jiu-Jitsu is not Brazilian Jiu-jitsu that is used and seen in the U.F.C.)

Wrestling- Derby City offers Folk Style/Greco Roman wrestling classes taught by collegiate wrestlers that have won multiple wrestling championships. Our wrestling coaches have also used their wrestling experience in BJJ and MMA competitions. | TAKEDOWNS |
"Takedowns"- Actual wrestling is virtually non-existent in most schools. Other gyms will usually teach second hand "takedowns" they've learned from someone else. If your wrestling coach was not a collegiate wrestler ask, "Why?!"

Training Schedule- Over 140 classes are taught each month, 7 days a week, morning and night so that a 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift employee can still get the benefits of their membership. | SCHEDULE |
"Closed"- This is something you will see quite frequently. A gym open only a few times a week with classes mostly at night. This makes it hard to train around work and school schedules

Beginners Welcome- With new people deciding to train with us every month, beginners are always welcome at Derby City. We have classes for men, women and children with private lessons available. Every person that comes to train comes for a different reason whether it's to get in shape, learn to fight, self-defense or just to have fun. You won't feel lost or feel out of place with us. | BEGINNERS |
"Not a Fighter, See you later"- This is common to hear from other gyms. If you don't want to be the next UFC star, you can't start training. This type of thinking is unfair to people who want to get in shape or learn about the sport. Everyone has to start somewhere, no one wants to train somewhere they don't feel accepted because of their training needs.

Gym Facilities- Derby City offers a 6000 sqft location with over 4500 sqft of mat space, boxing ring, full sized octagon. Men and women’s changing rooms, pro shop and plenty of equipment (ie. Punching bags, speed bag, double end bags, weights and weight equipment.) | FACILITIES |
“The Garage”- With the popularity of the UFC exploding, unqualified MMA gyms are popping up everywhere. Usually it’s someone with a punching bag, couple of mats, garage or sub leasing a small space in a building thinking they now have an MMA gym and they want you to pay to train with them. Never settle for inadequate facilities that do not meet your needs. If you’re going to do boxing, you will need a boxing ring. If you want to train in MMA, you will need a cage and if you’re into Brazilian Jiu-jitsu/Wrestling you will need plenty of mat space.

Price- This is where we separate ourselves from our competition. Most gyms will not post their prices on their website or tell you over the phone due to their high tuition prices. We at Derby City proudly post our prices on our website and give our prices over the phone because we are lower than the competition in some cases by 50%. At Derby City all prices include UNLIMITED training in ALL styles for once price. You will not pay more if you want to train more than one style of martial arts. If you want to purchase just one month of training it is $120 but we give a discount if you sign up for 12 months. Then the price is only $89 a month. Our best deal is the 24 month agreement for ONLY $69 a month plus we have military/family discounts and as always you are more than welcome to try a FREE class anytime you’re available. |
PRICE |
"How Much?!"- This is the usual response to most gyms. Locally prices vary from $100 for one style of martial arts to even $180 for unlimited training. Twice the price doesn't mean twice the service. Always find a gym that fits your budget.
